The location of your files will vary depending on the kind of computer you have, the operating system, your personal choices, and whether or not you use any third-party software for managing your images. There are hundreds of photo management software packages and many have their own locations for storing images. If you don't know where to find your image files after uploading them to your computer, please consult the documentation that came with your computer, operating system, digital camera, or image management software for more information.
You may also manage your images on-line (like on Picasa or Flickr) in which case you'll need to download your images to your local computer first before re-uploading to our website.
You may also have images on CD or USB drive from a photographer.
Common places to check:
We recommend that you keep your photographs current with the season and update as often as necessary to reflect any positive changes to your home. You can delete outdated or less desirable photos from your listing by clicking on “Photos” in your “Edit” screen, and then scrolling down to your Current Photos. Click on the red
to the left of the image you wish to delete, then click OK to delete the image.
Check that all of your photos are .jpg (jpeg) files (ex.: exterior.jpg), .png (ex.: exterior.png), or .gif, and under approximately 500KB. You can right-mouse-click on the picture file on your computer and select “Properties” to see the file size. Any photo editing software can be used to adjust the picture size.
Images can be classified into two basic groups. “Landscape” images are wider than they are tall; “portrait” images are taller than they are wide. Our site is set up to handle landscape format images only. Images are distorted if the “aspect ratio” (the ratio of width to height) of your image is different than the default aspect ratio for images displayed on your listing page or slideshow. For most landscape images, any distortion introduced will be minor.
This kind of stretching becomes more pronounced in the case of “portrait” format images.
We recommend using landscape format shots for your listing. But if you choose to use portrait format images, for best results, you should crop – not resize – such images on your local computer to the appropriate format before uploading. An alternative is to “add wings” to portrait images before uploading – blank regions to the left and right of the photo subject to force the aspect ratio to the correct value, turning a portrait image into a landscape image. You can crop or edit images using common image editors such as Photo Editor, Windows Live Photo Gallery, etc. (on Windows), Photoshop (on Mac or Windows), Preview (on Mac), GIMP (Mac or Linux), etc. Many digital cameras provide image editing software for Windows (e.g. Canon, Nikon, etc.) and many OEMs ship computers with extra image editing software preinstalled (e.g., Dell, HP). Please check the documentation that came with your computer or camera for more information.
